A little D.I.Y on FAT. Don’t be fooled by ‘healthy’
Did you know most nuts have more kilojoules (calories) per 100g than chocolate? And eating a whole avocado can be equivalent to eating 6 slices of bread in terms of kilojoules?
No, this doesn't mean you should eat chocolate over nuts!! Nuts are a much healthier choice, loaded with vitamins and minerals. I’m just saying don't eat too many at once. 30g of nuts (supplying around 15g fat) is a good amount per day as a snack, but be sure to not go overboard. As any more, and you could be providing as many calories as a whole meals worth of food.
Avocados are a GREAT source of dietary fat, providing fibre and a long list of vital vitamins. A fantastic alternative to butter/margarine. It is a healthy food but again, it is important to keep portion in mind. Most cafes have the almighty ‘smashed avo’ on their menus (as I’m sure you have sampled!) serving half to a WHOLE avo on the delicious bed of soughdough bread. This is just way too much, supplying around 30-40g of fat from the avocado alone (most people need around 40-70g a day!)
If you're watching your weight, stick to less than 1/4 of an avocado per meal (roughly 10g fat). And no more than ½ a day.

Do you have any tips on storing avocados after using part of them? I find they go brown and bad pretty quickly after being cut.
Thanks!
