Mt. Hotham Trip
I recently went to Mt. Hotham on a snow boarding trip, and it was amazing! I want to share what I got up to and give some fun tips for anyone thinking on going to Mt. Hotham.
It is about a 4 and a half hour drive from Melbourne, and is the only snow resort that has the village on the top of the mountain, so everything is super central, and everywhere you go has AMAZING views!
We stayed in Sambucca apartments, which had stunning views and was really beautiful accommodation. The Mt. Hotham website has many accommodation options, all of which are great.
The food on the mountain was really good, there were always some delicious healthy options too. My favourite places to eat:
The bird: This café is open for breakfast and lunch and rivals some of Melbourne’s cafes! Sourdough bread, eggs and avocado smash were on point! They also did some healthy and very tasty lunches too, including kale salads, seafood stews, great looking burgers and much more.
Zirkys café. Zirkys have a café with lovely gourmet sandwiches with other lunch foods ready to go. They also have a cosy bar, with amazing wines and hearty meals including roasts, roast veggies, salads, steamed veg and more.
The General: This is about 1-2km down from Hotham Central but is a really great little pub. This is the pub that the locals love, and I can see why. The vibe is spot on, but the food here was also unexpectedly good! They have a great menu and also have a great wood fired pizza menu which seemed to be very popular. They also had a healthy juice bar to hit up in the mornings too! Here is a beetroot risotto with goats curd
The bird: As mentioned above, great meals and it is also located in a very handy spot, at the bottom of the summit lift-so you can have a quick lunch and head back out on the slopes. I tried the seafood stew and it was lovely
Mt. Hotham has some amazing restaurants to choose from for dining out at night!
Yama Kitchen: Shared dishes, casual dining, cocktails, craft beer, local and international wines! Beautiful views, a gorgeous modern restaurant and the food did not disappoint. It is a modern fusion inspired menu with delicious dishes, and very tasty and healthy sides. Awesome cocktail list too!
Zirkys restaurant: Zirkys also have a fine dining restaurant for dinner. This was probably my favourite meal! Lovely steak and fish dishes, with beautiful sides and great wine.
The general: The general is a great spot for dinner, and is good fun to continue the night at!
The Onsen Retreat + Spa in Dinner Plain: This is a Japanese inspired spa, which is about 5 minute drive from Hotham Central down in Dinner Plain. It is worth the drive/bus as it is a fantastic way to unwind! They offer massages, great treatments and also an outdoor Japanese spa, which is insane when you are surrounded by snow!
White Spa in Hotham central: They do many treatments, facials and massages. I had a massage after a big day on the slopes and it was absolutely amazing. It was a nice treat to help loosen me up to get back out there the next day. Located in Hotham Central

One Tree Sports in Hotham Central. A premium equipment store and hire. You can rent everything you need, from snow clothing to your skis or snowboard. I rented a snowboard which they helped to personally fit it to me, and they were really helpful. Very easy to find, located in Hotham Central.
Chains are mandatory to carry on your drive up the mountain, we stopped at Rays ski shop on the great alpine rd in Myrtleford, which was very convenient and easy! They show you how to fit them to your wheels too.
SNOW BOARD LESSONS:
Even though I have snowboarded before, I got a lesson to improve my skills. I had Grant teach me some new things for about 2 hours and it was very worthwhile!
